New addition to the family

Post by Chartreusetea on Tue Aug 04, 2009 3:09 pm

im still trying to figure out how the motor and this trolling motor is going to fit on the transom.. confused

30 lb thrust motor, hand controlled with telescope handle

Anyone know if I was to add the motor to boat, since im guessing they both wont fit if I put the motor in the middle of the transom, would the boat still run the same way if I was to move over the motor just a little bit to make room for the trolling motor?

Seeing as this is your boat..

Y not clamp the motor onto the front of the boat?
Take a piece of 2/4 and put in on the outside of the hull and i 1/4 on the inside and them clamp the motor down nice and tight on the front. Thats how alot of guys have there trolling motors set up on Jon Boats. Then alls you have to do it rotate the head on the motor around..Loosen one screw and she turns right around..let me know if you need more explanation..

Im not really sure about putting any holes on my boat. And the bad thing, is that the front is not very straight. Its sort of curved inwards. Im guessing from just older age and use. Would it be a problem if i did both motors in the back?

The way im talking about doesnt put any holes in the boat...

Like this one cept your is a jon instead of a v hull..the motor is what holds the wood in place and you can adjust it acording to the pitch of your hull.. You can mount them both in the back but you will run intop problems when turning because the motor will hit eachother. And you will find when you tilt the trolling motor up to run the outboard it will probly be in your way..Been there done that and it was anoying..

Thats alot of wires in the front Shocked . I guess I will have to buy a longer handle since mine would be too short to be in the front for now. Thanks for the idea though, I really think im going to go with this. Any ideas on what i should do to do wood, so that it lasts longer?

Yea just coat it with some thompsons water sealer and that will do ya.. my whole decks are coated in that stuff and a year later i got no problems. Are for a longer handle use a peice of pvc..Or you can buy the extension handle for like $30..
